Begin your exploration of Norway the most delicious way possible – with a three course meal! You’ll dine at a fish market in Bergen and feast on the finest seafood from the sea and along the coast of Norway. From delicious hot dishes to exceptional sushi, you’ll savor every morsel of the locally-sourced and high quality seafood. Your two night stay in Bergen will be spent at the Bergen Bors Hotel, which offers the city’s most elegant rooms and close proximity to the Bergen fish market and harbor, Torgallmenningen and the Strandgaten shopping street. Discover the city on a private guided walking tour, which includes a visit to the famous Fish and Flower Market, the old Bryggen Harbour with its gabled pack houses, the popular Hanseatic Quarter and the ancient Maria Church. During the 12th and 13th centuries, when the Kingdom of Norway was at the peak of its power, Bergen was the capital of Norway. The Norwegian kings resided here, and many historical events took place in this busy port – in fact, Bergen owed wealth and prominence to the fish export trade! Before you depart Bergen, delight in a lunchtime concert in Troldhaugen at the Edvard Grieg Museum, home of the famous Norwegian composer and his wife, Nina. Their villa was built in 1885, and became a museum in 1928, which today includes Grieg’s Villa, the composer’s hut and the Grieg couple’s gravesite as well as a modern museum building and concert hall.
Hit the road for a drive through the mountains from Bergen to Gudvangen, and see the real history and culture of the Viking age come to life! Viking Valley, in the heart of the unique UNESCO listed Norwegian fjord landscape, is the setting of Njardarheimr. The town’s gates are open to everyone interested in experiencing and learning about the Vikings, how they lived, worked and influenced the wider world. Walk the streets of an international community of Viking enthusiasts. Afterwards, take a short drive to Flam for a fun family fjord paddle! This is the ideal way to get out on the fjord, as you kayak past Otternes Bygdetun with its old buildings and rich history out towards Fronnes where you will see Viking age grave mounds. A guide will take you out on the water and guide you through the landscape and history of the area. Stay at the Fretheim Hotel, a refurbished 1800s manor house, 650 feet from the Aurlandsfjord. The hotel features a restaurant, a large garden, and views of the gorgeous landscape from every room. Next up is a round trip scenic train ride to Myrdal on the Flam Railway with a local cider tasting en route! The Flåm Railway is one of Norway’s major and most spectacular tourist attractions, showcasing the rivers that cut through deep ravines, waterfalls, snow-capped mountains and mountain farms clinging dizzily to sheer slopes. The train makes a photo stop at the beautiful Kjosfossen waterfall, which has a power station to power the railway!
Next make your way to Balestrand, where you’ll spend the night at the grand 18th-century waterfront Kviknes Hotel, which lies in the center of Balestrand, a lush and beautiful west country village. From here, three branches of the fjord stretch inland, with small settlements like jewels between fjord and mountain, meaning the hotel offers stunning views of the surrounding Sognefjord. In the morning, drive to Mobakken for an incredible adventure! Combine a RIB-boat experience on the magnificent Lustrafjord with a guided visit at Urnes Stave Church, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Coming up close to waterfalls, you will get fine views of the fjord farms where the people of the Lustrafjord lived and worked for centuries. If you are lucky, curious porpoises and fjord seals could show up near the RIB, making it an even more enjoyable experience. The adventure continues ashore in the small town of Urnes at the amazing Urnes Stave Church, the 218-meter-tall Feigumfossen waterfall and the village of Sørheim. This adventure gives you an exciting combination of nature and culture, as well as a pleasant visit in the romantic village of Urnes! Spend one night in the BesteBakken Hotel, an exclusive, charming place focusing on adventure, culture, and splendid food. From just about anywhere on the property there’s a magnificent view over Hafslo and Lake Hafslo. Your final night will be back in Bergen before departing Norway.
